Hayes Guitar

Hayes Guitar

My career in Lutherie began accidentally in 1993. I had always been a craftsman/artist. I love making things for the joy of creating.

That first guitar in 1993 was just another thing to try my hand at. With the “Cumpiano/Natelson bible, Guitar Making Tradition and Technology” open on my bench, and a guitar kit, with pre-bent sides, I was going to own my first D-28 copy.

However, when a local performing artist got his hands on it; he did not want to give it back but instead offered to buy it. Picture lightbulb turning on over my head. I bought, built, and sold three more kits before enrolling in The American School of Lutherie at Healdsburg, CA., in 1995. It was at Healdsburg that I had the great pleasure of meeting and learning from Charles Fox and many other Masters of Lutherie. Today, I run a one-man guitar building and repair shop in Paonia, Colorado.
